| - | Judges 4:1-7 |
| - | Psalm 123 |
| - | 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 |
| - | Matthew 25:14-30 |
I lift up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven.
as the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
till he shows us his mercy.
- Psalm 123:1-2
We live in a time when slavery is no more, but anyone who has ever had an animal still understands the meaning behind these words. The dog that waits patiently for its owner to return home at the end of the day. The cat that lays on your lap purring. It is often a look of pure bliss from our animals as we spend time with them. I no longer have animals, but even the look of unadulterated joy in my children’s eyes when I come to pick them up after a day of work – that is the look we have toward God as we await his mercy.
Many times I’m unaware that I even need help until some crisis or tragedy sharply reminds me that I am very human and needy! Even then, I often go the the wrong sources of help. Experts have their place, but they can never substitute for trust in the Lord who is our ultimate Help.
