Scripture Reading:

 - Psalm 78:1-7
 - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
 - Matthew 25:1-13

We will not hide them from their children;
we will tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might,
and the wonders that he has done.

I’ll never forget the scripture I learned as a child, both in Sunday school and at church camp: 1 John 4:7-8; John 3:16; and Romans 3:12. Or the first songs: “Jesus Loves Me,” “The B-I-B-L-E,” and “Deep and Wide,” and so many others. Now, with children of my own, I cherish the moments I hear them singing “Jesus Loves Me” and other songs. What great joy it brings me to know that we are telling the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord.

Just as my parents warned me and I am warning my children, the Psalmist warns his audience about personal rebellion against God and disobedience of His Law. He tells of those who forgot God and were punished - slain in the wilderness because of God’s anger. He also tells of a nation graciously delivered when the people learned to obey.

What is the message for us? Once committed to God we must not turn back. If we allow a pattern of disobedience to rule our lives God will respond with anger – not because it is His right as our creator, but because God loves us so much that He doesn’t want to see us destroy our lives. We must go all the way with God!
