God has dramatically steered my journey through life. I wanted to take the easy path and continue working for the county Mental Health system in Topeka, Kansas, but God wanted me to go to seminary. I wanted to stay in Florida where it was warm, but God wanted me to be in Michigan where I could help that church through a difficult time. I wanted to stay where I owned a home and had a best friend and my babies had been born. But God wanted me to move to Ames, Iowa where I would be with this congregation. It seems all my life God has been preparing me to be right here where I am now. These career turning points all came out of wrestling matches with the Lord. It’s only as I look back that I can see the providential hand of God on my life.
God has a history of answering the prayers of His people. In ancient times, Moses (Exodus 3, 4), Aaron (Exodus 4:27-31; 7:6), Hannah (1 Samuel 2), Samuel (1 Samuel 3), and Nehemiah (Nehemiah 1) called on the name of the Lord, and He answered. God became angry with Israel, but he also forgave them and answered their prayers.
It makes me wonder why more people do not pray more often, knowing that God will hear and answer our prayers. This week, remember to pray and to seek God’s answer for your life.
